The Persian Gold Cup

The Roman god Janus, god of gates and doors
Opened up the pit of hell, and let the Summerton
Maiden lose, told her of her past and future,
The beginnings and end—and they drank from a
Golden cup, carved with ornaments, and entwined
Braided hair; the wine was meshed from the inners
Of a snake: to give vitality, and lustful affairs…!
